- Sequential mode: The rider decides for himself when to change gear, either using the conventional pedal or a switch on the handlebars. A servo mechanism shifts the main pulley to change between the seven gear ratios amazingly quickly.-

Fully automatic mode (Autodrive): Sophisticated electronics assume control over everything, and the CVT transmission keeps the engine running at maximum torque speed for optimum pickup and acceleration. The Sport gear transmission offers a choice of three mappings: Touring: for minimum consumption and maximum usability, Sport: for top performance with blistering acceleration, Rain: for use on wet or slippery roads- Semi-Auto drive mode: it allows the rider only to change down independently. DESIGN Aprilia has always believed in utility design, but has developed the concept to its maximum expression on the 850 Mana, creating a naked that is more versatile than any other. The saddle height is only 800 mm. Loading capacity has no comparison in the motorcycle world. The 16 litre tank is located under the seat, lower than normal, to distribute weight more evenly and lower the bike’s centre of gravity. The “traditional” tank location is occupied instead by an illuminated storage compartment that is lined with non-slip, non-scratch material and big enough to house a full face helmet. The compartment also incorporates mobile phone storage and a 12V power socket. The vehicle documents and toolkit are also located inside the same compartment.
ENGINE The 90° V engine configuration, chosen for torque and power delivery, is the perfect match for this type of transmission. The engine delivers 76 horsepower at the crank and well in excess of 7 kgm of torque (at 5,000 rpm).As is traditional for Aprilia’s big bike engines, lubrication is provided by a dry sump system, with a separate oil reservoir integrated inside the engine to minimise overall weight.Efficient engine breathing is ensured by a generous size filter box and exhaust system. The electronic engine management system incorporates a sophisticated Weber Marelli electronic fuel injection unit with a single 38 mm throttle body and twin spark ignition. FRAME, SUSPENSIONS, BRAKES: 100% APRILIAThe robust steel tube trellis frame sets new standards for this class of machine and ensures top level handling in line with the characteristics of the innovative engine. The single piece aluminium swingarm is damped by a monoshock that is laterally offset to free up space for the exhaust pipe behind the engine and make the motorcycle more compact. The 850 Mana has a wheelbase of only 1,463 mm, extremely short for a naked. By creating the 990 Adventure, KTM intended on giving the normal rider a feel of what a Paris Dakar pilot experiences during the exhausting race. I reckon the Austrian manufacturer did a damn good job both winning the Rally many years in a row and riding the streets and the wilderness, the goal being to reach your house’s front alley, not a truly challenging finish line.
First introduced in 2003, the KTM 950 Adventure S (yes, it started with the “S” and then got rid of it, producing in parallel two models) was an incredible entry as it featured the reliability, performance and style of the racing motorcycles that inspired its creation. The LC8 V-twin engine was a must from the very beginning and it displaced 950cc. A true on-and-off-road machine, the 950 Adventure’s engine developed an impressive 98.00 HP (71.5 KW) @ 8000rpm while maximum torque (95.00 Nm) was reached at 6000rpm. Color was KTM Orange.
2004 model year marked the addition of Silver and Black colors which weren’t kept for future years as in 2005 the “S” became a replica of Dakar Rally Racers while the simple version was Black painted.
In 2007 the cylinder capacity increased to 999cc resulting in what a rider can buy today, The V-twin is now fuel injected and a regulated catalytic converter allows it to meet Euro /// regulations. The ABS came naturally, exactly how the fun will come as you gather miles on it.

BMW Announces the R 1200 R
BMW has released information and technical specifications on the new R 1200 R, which continues a long tradition of the BMW motorcycle line.
Although BMW claims that the R1200R is the first motorcycle in the world with "Automatic Stability Control", or ASC) The R1200R is an evolution of the R1150R and R850R, which had combined sales of almost 60,000 units since 2001. BMW feels that there is market demand for a "roadster" type motorcycle that provides a continuance of the BMW classic design combining "unique character with timeless elegance".
The new Roadster takes up the general trend towards enhanced dynamics without neglecting the strengths of the basic concept, combining a significantly higher standard of agility with excellent all-round touring qualities.
The rear section of the tubular space frame has been specially developed for the R1200R Roadster, helping to give the entire rear end a light and nimble appearance and reducing the overall weight of the machine. Dry weight of the new R1200R all-rounder is a claimed 437 lb., or 198 kg.

You could look at Honda's RN01 mountain bike as a bit of a throwback. After all, the company started off making motorcycles before progressing on to cars, and now it's making experimental aircraft and robots. So a mountain bike seems decidedly low-tech for Honda R&D's technical gurus. But the RN01 is not just any weekend stump jumper. Built specifically for the high-adrenaline sport of downhill (DH to those in the know), mountain bike racing, in which riders hurtle down snow less black diamond-level ski slopes at ridiculous speeds, the bike features an honest-to-goodness transmission in place of the usual gears and derailleur setup. The guts of the transmission are a closely held secret. It's conjectured that it could be an extremely lightweight version of a continuously variable transmission (CVT). What is known for sure is that the transmission allows Honda's Team G Cross racers to switch gears in mid-air during jumps without the need to pedal, allowing them to maintain better balance. What Honda really hopes to gain from participating in DH is unclear. Learning about balance and lightweight at its most basic level could yield some improvements in motorcycle design. Besides, what's Honda got to lose? After all, the total bill for the RN01 effort probably doesn't even approach the annual dry cleaning bill for an F1 driver.

Yes the red one is the true legend H. J. Burt Munro's Bike also known as the worlds fastest 1928 Indian the top speed is know to be 190.07 mph at Utah's salt flats in 1967. Dedicated workmanship and patience.

India has some Royal Enfields why not Take the standard 350 and re-bore to 450, change the sprocket to a smaller one and rework the gearbox for more speed... if you do break the record, be glad and let me know, I'll be pleased to know how the old thumper did it.

Don't like cruisers? Hate that sport bike crouch position? Maybe the bike for you is a performance standard like Suzuki's exciting 1200 Bandit, which offers up one of the most compelling packages in motorcycling today.
The Bandit delivers considerable torque and acceleration, very good handling and exceptional comfort. The engine gets it's heritage from the GSXR line. The power curve has been altered to provide good low-end and abundant mid-range power - just the kind of power delivery 99% of the riding public can use and enjoy most. Just crack the throttle and the big Bandit pulls hard, especially in the mid-range. Up top, the big engine keeps spinning but doesn't produce a high RPM rush like you would expect from a GSXR.
Though the Bandit can be ridden in the higher RPM range, it's much more fun and easier to ride when you keep the revs in the mid-range. This is especially true while traversing back roads. Here the bike will hang with all but the most serious sport bikes as the steering is surprisingly light and somewhat quick. The secret here is to short shift and let the engine do it's thing, winding it out will only slow you down. The slick shifting gearbox is a joy to use and the engine and it's exhaust note just keeps getting better the more you rev the bike. Under most conditions it's exceptionally easy to cover ground quickly on the Bandit.

Bajaj is set in the sporting section well so it'll be a matter of time before we see something big happening with them......hopefully a good stunner with all the bells and whistles, upping the limit a little more.

Liberty Motors of Seattle, Washington, builds and restores some very nice sidecars. The business is the work of Pete Larsen and his wife Patty. Pete is an industrial designer and fabricator and recently started building something a little different, the ACE Cycle Car, a 3 wheeler that looks an awful lot like the old Morgan 3 wheelers, only this one is powered by a Harley Davidson V-twin engine. It looks rather nice from what I can see.
They tried to import a Moto Guzzi powered car from the U.K., (a Triking, perhaps?) without success and decided instead to build their own, powered by a Harley twin cam engine and using modern running gear. The ACE has a TIG welded tube frame, rack and pinion steering, a single sided swingarm in the rear with shaft drive and disc brakes all around. The ACE weighs 950 pounds, has a 10 gallon fuel tank and a top speed of 120 mph.
Projected base price is $34,500.00, less paint and the customer gets to specify a lot of the final details. "Each ACE is built up to order from the standard chassis using the engine of choice and outfitted with the buyer’s selection of wheels, chrome, powder-coat, interior and body colors. " The end result looks like a fun little car perfect for scooting around some back country roads.

If you remember Project M85 Freeride, you’ll see the same idea in this new concept bike from Derbi, the Derbi DH 2.0, a mountain bike sized motorcycle with a small engine and very light weight. It has fuel in frame like a Buell, an automatic transmission, a 100cc air cooled 4 stroke engine, underseat exhaust, inverted fork, air monoshock out back and a dry weight of 88 pounds! That’s a lot closer to mountain bike weight than motorcycle. The DH in the name refers to downhill mountain biking. (They explain even the brand name Derbi originates from DERived from Bicycle. I didn’t know that!) And if I read things correctly, the engine can even be quickly dismounted for a fast downhill with less weight.

A new motorcycle company from France? It looks that way and their first bike is pretty sweet. Wakan Motorcycles has produced the Wakan 1640, a single seat, V-Twin powered sport bike built around the AC Cobra idea of dropping a big American powerplant into a sporty European frame.
Joel Domergue, the man behind Scorpa, a company known for some excellent trials motorcycles, and an expert trials rider himself, figured it was time to sell the company which left him with some cash in his pocket and ideas in his head. Actually, those ideas had been floating around for years but, busy with Scorpa, he didn’t have the time to do anything with them. Now, with free time and a bit of capital, he went to work.
The Wakan 1640 starts with a single spine oil carrying frame, a 54 inch wheelbase, with inverted Ceriani forks mounted at 22 degrees. Power comes from a 100 cubic inch S&S V-Twin producing 115hp and 115 foot pounds of torque and those horses are moving a motorcycle that weighs only 390 pounds with oil, no fuel. The engine sports a single Keihin flatslide carb that gets ram air through a blower type scoop situated above the airbox cover. The fuel tank is below the seat, molded to double as a sort of rear mudguard with the filler mounted on the tail section.
The engine has been dynamically balanced to reduce vibration plus the bar end weights help and the result is a much smoother bike than you might expect.
Braking chores go to a single 340mm front disc with a six piston caliper, which first road tester, Alan Cathcart, calls, "OK" but which might need to be tweaked a bit for serious stopping power. Cathcart also says the handling is similar to the Buell Firebolt XB12R but performance from the S&S V-Twin is definitely a step up.
The first 15 bikes are scheduled to be produced by October for €28,000 ($35,000),but as production ramps up the price is expected to fall quite a bit. The next 100 bikes for 2007 will retain the Keihin carb but afterwards, fuel injection will be necessary to meet Euro 3 emissions requirements in 2008.
This is no prototype bike, it’s ready for production now and pre orders are already trickling in. They’ve kept the bike totally under wraps during the three year development time and these first stories show a complete bike.

Lately i was on a trip to Chennai and i had to take the bus................... now i know it is a bad decision and a topic but it is my blog and so i get to say whatever i want to so next time you don't get caught on the wrong side of life.

how does a guy who loves bikes and 4 second racing stay on a bus with people who don't know what to pack for a trip and what not to bring on a bus? big question. now i did not know that people are rude on a bus till that day. of jolting and annoying breaking all the way to my destination the most irritating was the people pushing and shoving for place on the seat all along the way, i think it will be helpful to Carry a pipe wrench or a big spanner on the trip because one cant say what will happen there any day. don't even bother to reserve, it`s a waste for a trip like that.

The verdict is don't get on a bus for a long trip to anywhere when you can do it with a car or a bike, don't be shy to speak out for your cause .

Chennai is a lot different now from 10 years back,the biker dudes are keeping it real and the city is hotter than ever before...Got to love the place.

i was once riding with a fellow who thought i could`nt ride a YAMAHA Rx100"small bike big grunt " little did he know i retard and change gears with race style on it, his Bad.
i hope a company comes up with a bike which speaks and knows when it`s rider is too drunk to ride. because a 14 wheeler is still mightier than a 2 wheeler bike these days..........

You can save a lot of money by buying a used dirt bike. You can check the bulletin board at your local motorcycle dealer, check on EBay, or even Craigslist.com now has a lot of local listings for cars and motorcycles. While you will save money, you'll also want to make sure you are not getting into a bike that has been completely abused (IE, run without oil, not maintained etc). Find out how often it has been run, where, and what the maintenance schedule has been. Sometimes you can luck out and find a fairly new bike that someone bought on a lark and decided it was not for them. For a new dirt bike, you need to spend some time at the showrooms of your local motorcycle dealers. They normally have models you can test drive and they will point out all the latest features on the newest bikes. If you can, ride the bikes in the real environment -- nothing like a friend who has the bike you want, letting you play with it on an offroad trip.

Bajaj Auto is all set to ride into Europe. The company is a step away from selling its 125 cc bikes in the European Union (EU). India’s second largest motorcycle maker has picked up a 14.5 per cent stake in KTM Power Sports of Germany.
The Rs 300 crore deal makes Bajaj the second largest stakeholder in KTM Power Sports. KTM Power Sports owns KTM Sportmotorcycle, Europe’s second largest maker of sports and dirt bikes after BMW.
"This is Bajaj’s first step in its global ambitions," Amit Nandi, GM marketing, Bajaj Auto told Hindustan Times. "The tie-up gives Bajaj access to 720 KTM dealerships in Europe, where we will retail our own products," he added.
A tie-up between Bajaj and KTM will also offer an opportunity to co-develop a range of products for manufacture by Bajaj for both the KTM and Bajaj brands.
A technical collaboration, as part of the tie-up, will help the two companies develop and build 125 cc and 250 cc liquid-cooled four-stroke engines for KTM and Bajaj motorcycles in India and abroad. Under the agreement, future products for Bajaj and KTM will be manufactured in Bajaj’s existing plant at Chakan, near Pune.
KTM would get access to South East Asian markets, starting with India, Nandi said. It currently sells very limited number of models only in Japan.
Bajaj has recently launched its XCD 125 in India. The company’ sales have been sharply declining in the last year due to the stagnating 100 cc segment.

i think India is gearing up for some serious 250 or 350cc bikes in the coming years and the government expanding the highways is a thing much needed for all Honda,Bajaj fanatics when that happens.
Time is of essence, and upping the performance of a good bike is not to be ignored, i like to tune it ,tweak it and zoom it ,real good
i find the old country roads the best sometimes, Because the city is THE city as always.......

On the other end of the unorthodox spectrum, check out the one-off Roland Sands Ducati Hypermotard, which blends elements of custom chopper, dirt tracker, and caféstart the thing up and rev it; the unrestricted L-twin sounds pretty sweet, on the hearing, not so good on the eardrums, checkout the bend pipes,it`s nothing more... Devoted Ducatisti are sure to be up in arms about this re-worked Hypermotard, but a little controversy never hurt anyone, did it?

Very good,Yes Ivan i did have a limited edition pulsar 180 but

now the new two hot wheels on the block for me is The Pulsar 200,it handles well too,here`s the pic....

Those are Good bikes you have there, the Shalone is truly one but i don't think the parts are available as they were 5 or 6 years back so it is better to keep the customizing to a limit,Race silencer,alloy wheels,disc brake....... The H Honda CBZ is a good one from the Honda people, i don't think much can be done there too because the bike is made with everything stretched to the limits on it, to up the performance would be to use a Turbo charger.....But on a single cylinder that is not known of .

What is it with the New BAJAJ PULSAR 200 oil cooled, break pads wearing out fast ?
Yeah that is some thing we face,with a bike as good as that.....
I think it is only important to use both the breaks, this not only slows the Bike down fast but also lessens the load on the front discs.
